# Mistaking a model for the thing itself

A common human error is to mistake their model of the world as being the world itself, but all it is is a model. A model can be useful no doubt, but it's use ends when it becomes prescriptive upon things it has no control over, the world itself.
For example, "knowing" that the earth was the center of the universe made for very convoluted equations to account for Mercury's retrograde. Often it is very difficult to see past our our own rose-tinted glasses.
