# Desk Thing Created: [[2024_11_05]] 06:03 Tags: [[Project]] [[Software]] I was one of those suckers who bought the Spotify Car Thing before they decided to essentially brick them... I don't even have a driver's license, but, I bought a device specifically made for the car? Why would I do that? I loved the display of the Car Thing & the idea that I could control my music was enticing to me! I wanted to use it not in a car, but on my desk [based on this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AJO8Cmyi4U&pp=ygUUY2FyIHRoaW5nIGRlc2sgc2V0dXA%3D). But, I found it way too fiddly to work with since it always needed to be connected to my phone. So, it went into that random junk drawer, with no real hope of being used again. Spotify announced that they would be discontinuing the Car Thing, which reminded me of it. I looked around and at the time, I hadn't seen anybody who found any mods to be able to re-purpose the device. Until recently, I saw [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQVuGeoqyUc) which showed all of the projects that people have made since! Which is how I came upon [Desk Thing](https://deskthing.app/). I'm still playing around with this to see what is possible for it, but I'm super hopeful about the project giving life to an otherwise unused device. ## References -
